ZMF Ori: Cherry vs. Cocobolo

ZMF Ori: Cherry vs. Cocobolo

  • The cherry I have had since March of this year and it has been my favourite full-sized headphone that I have owned.

  • Here are some photos that the previous owner took of the cocobolo.

  • The cocobolo is incredibly new, dated June 23rd on the card. It has one of ZMF's new lambskin pilot pads on it, which is very smooth and silky compared to the original protein pilot pad that I have on my cherry Omni.

  • The bass on the cocobolo reaches lower. The overall sound is leaner and more detailed on the top end compared to the cherry.

  • This is because the cherry Omni utilizes a soft wood and has a large decay - leading it to have a slightly large soundstage than the cocobolo. It also has a bit of bloom in the lower mids, making acoustic guitars sound incredibly lifelike.

  • The cocobolo is more balanced overall, but loses a sense of that really specific sound signature that the cherry has. It is the better all-rounder however.

  • Aesthetically, I have to give it to the cocobolo.

  • The cocobolo weighs a little more than the cherry, but not substantially.
